What we write in this production is pure INFORMATION about the ascii-scene and NOTHING else. Thats why I was glad to see that Art Bomb was quite unlike to this production, and I hope they'll keep it that way. And also that it aint a 100% ascii-magazine, but a creation with psx and music aswell, that pleased me. Since there are more rumours about ascii-magazines I'd like to state another thing. I've worked really hard with this gazette since the start, and if I see ANY kind of information that might be TAKEN (without permission in that case) from the Ascii Gazette - I'll personally hunt down that indeed POOR author until every single spread copy of that ripped crap is erased FOREVER. Just liked to tell you all that. I'm right now doing my military-service (a reason why my own ascii-activites are down to zero) which will have to be the explaination why this issue is so delayed (as usually). The scene seems to be intact thu' with some really good releases, and quite a lot of worse ones. Anyway there still are REALLY few releases, but from the ones released there are mostly group-releases, which pleases me. But here is now finally the tenth issue of the nowadays really damn good spreaded and notified Ascii Gazette. / Xcluziwe ( xCz ) of Sos and Hellfire. _ ________________________________________________________________________ _ Group Acronyms - -÷--------------÷- - These are the acronyms the groups in the ascii scene uses mostly, some groups acronyms varies, but these are the most common ones; Arclite AL al-abcde.txt Ascii Makers Federation AMF amf-abcd.txt Ascii Norge ASN asn-abcd.txt Art ART art-abcd.txt Arte ARTE! arte!-ab.txt ArtCore AC! ac!-abcd.txt Assault AST ast-abcd.txt Atre AT! at!-abcd.txt Azkiness AZK azk-abcd.txt Contra C! c!-abcde.txt Castle of Illusion COI coi-abcd.txt Caustic Style CS! cs!-abcd.txt Da Hood - abcdefgh.txt Destiny -D! -d!-abcd.txt Dezign DZN dzn-abcd.txt Digital Grafitti DG! dg!-abcd.txt Divine Stylers DS! ds!-abcd.txt DreamPhase DP dp-abcde.txt DoggyStyle DGS dgs-abcd.txt Dzain [D] [d]-abcd.txt Epsilon Design E^D e^d-abcd.txt Fine Arts FA! fa!-abcd.txt Fire & Ice F^I f^i-abcd.txt G^Style G^S g^s-abcd.txt Grand Royal GR! gr!-abcd.txt GroTesticle GRT grt-abcd.txt Head H! h!-abcde.txt Honey Ascii Division HNY hny-abcd.txt House of Style HOS hos-abcd.txt Immortal Art IA! ia!-abcd.txt Inferno Grafitti IG ig-abcde.txt Jedi Arts JA! ja!-abcd.txt Katharsis Ascii KTS kts-abcd.txt Lingo LNG lng-abcd.txt Link 124 L124 l124-abc.txt Looker House LKR lkr-abcd.txt Low Profile LP! lp!-abcd.txt Mad Skillz MS! ms!-abcd.txt MegaStyle MGS mgs-abcd.txt Mindless ML! ml!-abcd.txt Mo'Soul M'S m's-abcd.txt Nettwerk NTW ntw-abcd.txt OffSpring OS! os!-abcd.txt Oops Ascii OPS ops-abcd.txt Org. of M.H. But Azkiness still lives on. · Nup of Mo'Soul renamed to B. Like to chat him? Try to find his e-mail, he liked to have it censured here in the Gazette. · Exile did recreate Grand Royal after Red Demon had left for House of Style, and later Low Profile. Now he's in charge of the group together with the new members War child and Lord Chaos. · Maz spoke about his old group Art, and first declared it as dead (he also says that he's really tired of making ascii, and has probably quitted for good, but he couldn't 100% declare those facts) but did after a while convinced himself that Art probably still is active. · Contras future is now unclear as the leader H2o left, and the other members hasn't said anything about any new joinings nor changes. · Zeus declares him leaving Style with this: aha.. well, i'm releasing a new collection soon, to inform my resignment (which has happened over 3-4 months ago) from style. i'll see if somebody's interested, but i don't think so, i'm no good at ascii anyway.. (Oh YES you are. Ed.) · Lord Chaos is about to re-join a ascii group, and it might be the newly reorganizing Grand Royal. · Art Bomb was released, and it showed not at all to be an 'ordinary' ascii-mag, but a vote-chart covered with 85% other interests (like psx and music) instead of pure ascii, like this mag, The Ascii Gazette. · A new group was created, Mad Skillz, by Mexx, who earlier just had been independent. · Ascii Makers Feduration renamed to Link 124, and two new members joined. · Ultimo Imperio are once again in trouble. As Low Profile declared them war hasn't life been easy. And now recently were english Ultima 're'-born and will use the 'ult'-tag in file-names. · The 100 Most Respected Ascii-Artists project by Punk of Head is cancelled after two never released issues. Instead will Punk work on a new larger project called 'Art and Style' including; - top 100 most respected ascii-artists (also counted tribute-collies). - top 20 most respected ascii-groups (also counted tribute-collies). - top 100 guest-artists. - a list of all checked collies. which will be released in a not too distant future. · Wild Style was reborn by Tsar1 when he released his first pack for a long time. He could also nowadays be seen on the internet once in a while. Other old school artists who has returned to the scene through the inter- net are Rotox, Kamenski, Maz and Mo' Soul's Manta. · When Hiro Protagonist released his large latest colly, it was under the Remorse label. Remore is (according to Hiro Protagonist) THE oldest ascii/ansi-crew EVER (note that it has nothing to do at all with amiga- ascii) with a history that goes back to 1981. They are now reborn and are added to the Ascii Gazettes databank. This is a great part of what Hiro Protagonist explained about the pc-ascii scene. Read and learn, this explains alot; The Ibm ascii scene began in 1993, with an ansi group named Tribe. Tribe was the first ansi group to release ascii, their ascii man was Piromaniak. The first all-ascii group was Katharsis!Ascii (an offshoot of the original Katharsis clan). Tinyz was the original member of Kts!Asc and still heads the group today. Katharsis!Ascii membership included artists across the globe, and was the only ascii group in the ibm scene until in late 1994 when Necromancer and Necronite (both of whom were previously in Shiver) founded a group called Remorse. Remorse was the basis for what I have come to term the 'ibm ascii explosion'. It is here that we see a split in the ibm ascii scene, what we call the old school and the new school. The new school came about as certain artists in Remorse developed a new block style of ascii, more closely related to ansi than anything else. The old school remains based on _\|/- characters while the new school employs .s$" as it's primary character table (as a side note: alot of new school does not translate properly to an amiga due to certain highbit ascii characters which are frequently used in the style do not have exact counter-parts under the amiga ascii table, or their locations differ). Until Katharsis!Ascii released it's first ascii colly, the standard form for distribution of artwork in the ibm scene was single files in a zip archive. The reasons for this are simple: viewers could be easily coded to handle the relatively small individual works; the works could be colored or left uncolored on an individual basis at the artist's discression; and the tradition of ibm ascii was that each individual logo was a work of art unto itself, style and alignment changed to suit the needs of the logo rather than rewording the logo so it fits some sort of cookie-cutter ascii font set. And our scene's approach to art was entirely different than your's. When a group released the entire group released. Everyone who had something for the month's pack (usually released within the first week of a month) got their submissions to the senior staff or founder(s) who would then assemble everything into a single archive, write the newsletter and memberlist, and release the damn thing. In three weeks the whole process would start up again as artists reacted to last month's pack and came back with more individual styles and responses. The first 'colly' to debut in the ibm ascii scene was released by the group Katharsis!Ascii. It was called THENME.TXT and was a rather childish response to Remorse's founding (Kts!Asc was used to being the only ascii group), but it was 350k of amazing artwork and set us all spinning in different directions. The trend was not immediately picked up but Katharsis!Ascii continued to release it's 'Group Collys' and try to come to grips with a North American ascii boom in Remorse. Necromancer and Necronite dropped out of the scene by the 3rd Remorse pack and Whodini and Omicron were left to manage it their place. By the 5th pack Whodini had had enough and quit to found a new group, Trank. Invitations to join Trank were extended to most of Remorse (the people Whodini liked at any rate), and so we continued on under a new banner. The amiga font became popular with some of us, and so we did art which was accessable across platforms. The inherent nature of the / and \ under the amiga font bringing new shame to our old 80x25 ibm ascii styles which now looked like hell under it. Our productivity grew in leaps and bounds, instead of 4 or 5 logos a month artists began doing 70k ascii collys every three months. From there it all just kept on going.. And this is what Hiro Protagonist has to say about Remorse; Remorse recently reformed by a merger between Trank and the ACiD ascii division (ACiD, if you've been living under a rock, is the longest running art group in the world). The Wu-Trank label is being kept alive at some level, going back to represent the inner clique it originally had for some. Remorse1981 has evolved out of the Wu, at some level, but seems more progressive to me somehow. Meanwhile the main body of Remorse is releasing in the ACiD pack as well as the old familiar RMRS-xx.ZIP archives. The difference of the pc and amiga ascii-scenes has caused a lots of problems for magazines like this one. I've decided to include artists, groups and packs that appears in the .TXT-way. They may be from pc- related groups like Remorse. Just as long as they are released in a 'amiga viewable' way. · There were rumours about a 'artists unite' project by some called Expose, but it never became more (at the moment) than rumours. _ ________________________________________________________________________ _ All the Releases - -÷----------------÷- - As we all know is it quite hard to read all the ascii-productions that is being released nowadays. Here have I tried to complish a list of all collections that came to my hands (and that ought to be atleast about 98%) during the period since the latest Ascii Gazette. And how many are they then? The nineth Gazette was released the 11/12 1996, and the ones I've stored on my harddrive are as many as 118 collections. Now the ascii scene has lotsa new groups, where pc-artists are in most of them. More comments about the amiga/pc-asciiscene in the News part, go read it. And as usually quite many 'my first colly'-productions. No coop-collections with more than one group neither this time. In this issue the All Times Release Chart with the Top Ten Of All Times (which shows the most active groups through all times in a list based on Ascii Gazette issue 2,3,5,6,7,8,9 and 10) continues. Always changing as you'll notice. If you like to blame groups doing to much quantity, this is where you really should look. It's truly great to see that contact over the borders won't have to be as hard as it used to be. The net is good for us. Go get it you too. If the group says 'Independent' it means that the artists aint within any 100%-asciicrew, it won't mean that this artists is totally independent. Many thanks to Cesium/Session and Lord/Absolute who made the original E-mail lists where I found some of these artists. Sorry that my own adress aint there, but I share it with a friend of mine, so it's kind of hard for me to rechieve letters that way, but why not try to catch me on the IRC on the #AmiElite -channel. Always as xCz, xCluziwe, xCZ^sOS, 'xCZ'hF' or simular. -÷-------------÷- - These are instead the active groups of today. With the members as they are situated today. And about Divine Stylers, Grotesticle and some more, they are groups that aint 100% Ascii-groups, but I included them anyway, since they have members who releases for them as they were ordinary Ascii-groups, and other releases than ascii are rare or hasn't even appeared yet. Also various other crews has a reputation to be ascii-groups, but the ones I possibly can't include are the ones listed below the ordinary groups-list. And if there are artists who appear on more than one place, thats only because they are accepted as artists in more than one crew. As I've never heard of a few of these groups members, I can't possible know their tags, so these few tags are written with a ' ° ' infront of them, to make you aware of this. The names listed below, my ladies and gentlemen, are The Artists. And do notice that some of the names here are former handles/tags of artists who now has a new handle, but they still appear here if you should find any tag on a ascii which you wondered who has made it, and would like to find out. So, when artists change handle I just add their new handle and dont remove the old one. Quick key-definition should go like this: - = Artist don't use any tag. And there are only 5 artists who won't use any tag at all. Easy eh? Well, lets go then, 630 Artists. And that means that since the last issue of the Ascii Gazette, released 11/12-96, it has appeared 37 new artists in our beloved Ascii-scene. Please bring us more names, if you know any, by telling about them to xClUZiWe through e-mail, irc or any bbs. 2Fast [ 2F ] 610 [ 6¹° ] 69^1 [-!69^1] 911 [ 911 ] A Perfect Craziness [ ApC ] Abhorrence [ aBHO!] Abrasax [ -aß ] Ace [ AcE ] Acid [ aC!d ] Acid [ acid ] Acid Kid [ adk! ] Adon [ AdN! ] Adrock [ aRk ] Afg [ AFG ] Afterlife [ al ] Aguila [ -aGA ] Alcatraz [ a(z ] Amalgamate [ aGa ] Amblin [ aBn! ] Anf [ AnF! ] Antopheles [ -AnT!] Apollo [ Apo! ] Appomatox [ aptx ] Aqua [ aQua ] Aragon [ arg ] Arrogance [ aCk ] Arschpupser [ aP ] Artic Cat [ AC ] Aryan [ aRYAn] Asphixia [ asp ] Atlantic [ atl! ] Atom [ AToM ] Axe [ aXe ] Axeblade [ aB! ] Axetro [ -aX! ] Axy [ aXY ] B [ 'b! ] B.Cyclo+ [ bC+ ] Baggen [ Bgn ] Baltazar [ -bz ] BashGuard [ BsG ] Bastard [ b!d ] Bc [ BC ] Beavis [ !b! ] Behemoth [ bHm ] Belzebub [ bLZ ] Betty Boy [ bb! ] Beyond [ bYN ] Bhudda [ bUdd ] Bibopp [ b¿b ] Biscrok [ bIS ] Björne [ -bj! ] Black Dragon [ B.D. ] BlackPanther [ BP ] Blazer [ bZr ] Blockman [ bLO ] Blue [ -B- ] Blunt [ bt- ] Boheme [ bHe ] Boone [bOONE!] Boomer [ ßmR ] Booth [ Bo ] Booya [ bY! ] Boozo [ bOz ] Breeze [ bRZ ] Btw [ BtW ] Budgie [ bD! ] Bugge [ bUG ] BuzzWipe [ b!w ] Crl [ crL ] Cain [[cain]] Caine [ c ] Cannibal [ c4 ] CaptainCaveman [ [CC] ] Carbon2 [ c2! ] Case [ -cASE] Cateye [ cte ] Catharsis [ chs ] Caxx [ c% ] CeeJay [ cJ ] Cenobite [ cNb ] Chrombacher [ cRb ] Cip [ CIP ] Clairvoyant [ (c) ] Clone [ cL! ] Coco Pops [ cp ] Cola [ cOLa ] Concept [ cc ] Cook [ c0ok ] CountDan [ cD! ] CountZero [ c0! ] Crack [ ck ] Crawford [Crawfo] Cray [ CRaY ] Crazy [ -cR ] Crocat [CRoCAT] Crusader [ cDr ] Crypth [ CrT ] Cryptor [ cP! ] Ctp [ ctp! ] Cuz [ CuZ ] Cybergod [ cG! ] Cyberkid [ ck! ] CyberPunk [ !cP! ] Cyclone [ cyc! ] Czar [ czar ] Daim [ daim ] Dale [ DaLE ] Danny [ dNy ] Danzig [ dZG ] DarkHolder [ dH! ] Dark Man [ dark ] Dartagnan [ -DtN ] Dash [ d! ] Dashzero [ dZ! ] Data [ dA! ] Dave [ ÐÅ! ] Daytona [ ©dtA!] Daze [ dAZE ] DDay [ dDay ] Deamo [ -d! ] DeathLord [ dL! ] Dee [ dee ] Def Base [ dEF! ] Defjam [ dj ] Delite [ dLT ] Delta9 [ d9 ] Delta Tx [ dtx ] Demax [ -d- ] DeOne [ ^d1 ] DerHm [ ð ] Desert [ D! ] Desoto [ dto ] DethCrush [ dC! ] Devistator [ dV$ ] Dexter [ Dt ] Dew [ dew ] Dino [ dNo ] Dirk [[DiRK!] Dizy [ dIzY!] Dmd [ dmD! ] Dmg [ dMG ] Doc [ DoC ] Don Croce [ dC- ] Dos [ dOS ] Dr.AnalFreser [Dr.AnL] Dragon [ dGN! ] Drakar [ dK! ] Drastic [ dRS ] Draw [ draw ] Drf [ !drf ] Druid [ dRD ] Dual [ (d!) ] Dweeb [ dwb ] Dvize [ DVz ] Dyonisos [ dNSs ] Eagle [ egl ] Easy [ eZY ] Efx [ eFX ] ElBruto [ eb ] Elf¡n [ e! ] Elric [ EL? ] Elvis [ ] Enforcer [ eNf ] Epitaphic [ iC ] Esjay [ -e$J ] Everslick [ vsl ] Evrimsson [ evr ] Exciter [ eXC ] Exile [ .xl ] Exocet [ ÷e÷ ] Exon [ eX! ] Fake [ fke! ] Fame [ fM! ] Farenheit [ ©fAh!] Fatal [ fTL ] Fate [ fATE ] Fckw [ fCkW ] Fear [ fear ] Fenriz [ -FR ] Fiddler [ &f ] FireMan [ F M ] Flare [ fLr ] Flash [ fLA ] Flexor [ fXR ] Flite [ ÷f! ] Flux [ fX ] Folar [ [fL] ] Forse [ f0! ] Foss [ ] - Frame [ fRM ] Frb [ fRB ] Fred [ fRD ] Funki [ f@nK!] G.d.m. When did you make your first Ascii attempts? My first ascii attemps... I guess it was about 10 years ago. I tried to make some "logos" with C-64. It has so nice chars... I made my first Amiga logos in 1992, first anims in 1993. o2. Do you know how many Ascii-productions have you released? Yes, not that many actually. Well it kinda depends what you count as ASCII productions. If you count all ASCII/ANSI SCENE related releases, I've released 11 ascii collections, 2 ansianimation collections, 1 ansi collection, 1 ansi manual and an iff2ansi converter. o3. What's so damn special with Ascii? Dunno. I prefer ANSI. o4. Have you got any special idols from the Ascii-scene? I guess I could say that RED DEVIL/DEZIGN is my idol. He was the reason why I started to make ansianimations. He was also ahead of his time in ansi logos. He knew how to use ITALIC, BOLD and UNDERLINE. To him ansi logos were not just ascii logos with colours. I've got 65 ansilogos by him, all made with different style. How many of you can compete with that? None. I also love the work of ARCLITE dudes, their logos always inspire me to make cool animations. o5. What's your opinion about the Iff2Ascii-Art? I think it's ok to convert iff pictures into ascii, I've used iff2ascii in some of my anims (in ascii morphing for example). Everything that LOOKS good IS good in my opinion. Another thing is that how many percent of the converted stuff actually LOOK good. I prefer "pixel perfect" multicolor iff2ansi converters like Ansi Hijacker. o6. Are dot's more stylish than 'regular' Ascii? Humm. Are circles more stylish than 'regular' ellipses? o7. Do you read every single collection that is released today? Hell no. I have enough trouble checking out all the collections that my friends release. BTW: IRC is an EVIL place. How can you say NO to some poor ascii artists face when he dcc sends you his latest collection?-) o8. Do you answer requests made to 'All Available Artists' ? Nope. I think I have never answered other requests than the ones which were addressed to me. (To be honest, even the ones who write directly to me don't have a very good chance to actually GET a logo, since I'm a damn lazy person) o9. How should a request be written to be guarantied a answer from you? I answer all the messages I get, but if you want to be sure that you get a logo from me, noticeable money donation would assure it. 1o. Are there more Ascii-groups than there has to be? Yep, I think so. There are also way too many "artists", but I guess every artist has a fan somewhere. I mean even some of the most popular artists are pretty lame in my humble opinion, but I won't say any names here. To make the world a better place, I decided reduce the number of lame ascii artists, and I quited making asciis. I hope many people would follow my example. 11. What do you think of the attitude in the Ascii-scene of today? I think the ascii scene is a bit too hostile, people are fighting about everything. For example, it was quite weird how everybody reacted when Shapechanger joined us. If we say somebody has joined ARCLITE, you better BELIEVE it's true. We have no reason to lie about our memberlist. 12. What do you think about the idea of having special magazines dedicated to the Ascii-scene? I think it's a nice idea, but I think the QUALITY of ascii magazines could be much better. 13. Is there a big difference between Old-skool Ascii and Ascii of today? Humm... I guess there isn't THAT big difference, but somehow most of the ascii dudes I respect have been in the business for a really long time. I guess it's quite hard to amaze me anymore, since there are so many artists out there. The competition is quite hard nowadays. It's hard to be original, and that's actually one of the reasons why I decided to make ansianimations. 14. Have you any special projects going on that will be released in a near future? Yes indeed. I've been working on my next ansianimation collection for 8 months now, and it's almost finished. Mop/Essence has coded a nice GUI for it and Cyclone/Illusion & Mistral/Parallax have pixeled me some real gfx. It's going to have some cool music too, and EVERYBODY from Arclite (except G.E.M.) are involved in this big COOPERATION. All anims are for BBS usage (download, upload, and so on...), so I guess many sysops are going to jump for joy. There is also going to be an amazing ansi intro in it, including many nice effects (true 3d was just beginning) like glenz ansi morphing and animated iff2ansi stuff. 15. What would you be doing instead of Ascii if you suddenly quitted? I have suddenly quitted making asciis, and I'm making ansianims instead. There are better ascii artists than me, so I decided to concentrate on ansianims. 16. Do you have a horny snoop doggy dogg? Nope, but I've got a TI-92 with no batteries. P.S. Everybody, feel free to contact me via e-mail: rt3097@tutech.fi And remember: ANIM A DAY MAKES YOU INSANE! _ ______________________________________________________________________ __ _ Interview with Ranx of Jedi Arts - -÷--------------------------------÷- - And this is what I had to face; o1. When did you make your first Ascii attempts? - Somewhere around '92 o2. Do you know how many Ascii-productions have you released? - About 20 I guess. o3. What's so damn special with Ascii? - It's easy to do and looks good, eh. o4. Have you got any special idols from the Ascii-scene? - Desoto makes damn good looking ascii. Simple, but VERY good looking. Also Shock G is always inspiring.. o5. What's your opinion about the Iff2Ascii-Art? - It's fine to me if it looks good. o6. Are dot's more stylish than 'regular' Ascii? - Hell no.. o7. Do you read every single collection that is released today? - No, but most of them yes. o8. Do you answer requests made to 'All Available Artists' ? - Depends on the size of my current request list heh. o9. How should a request be written to be guarantied a answer from you? - If you add my email address in a carbon copy or other mailing list you WON'T get any ascii that's for sure. 1o. Are there more Ascii-groups than there has to be? - How about a one big ascii group then? No thanks. Sure there has to be a lot of groups. Rather a lot of groups than ALOT of independents.. 11. What do you think of the attitude in the Ascii-scene of today? - There are some artists who's attitude I don't like. And there are also some whose I do like. I think it's pretty well balanced.. 12. What do you think about the idea of having special magazines dedicated to the Ascii-scene? - There shouldn't be a scene without a magazine. 13. Is there a big difference between Old-skool Ascii and Ascii of today? - Not really .. to me atleast. About as big as in os skateboards and ns skateboards eh. If you know what i mean. 14. Have you any special projects going on that will be released in a near future? - Just trying to compile another pack of requests. Altho I might try to make a bbs design collection someday. 15. What would you be doing instead of Ascii if you suddenly quitted? - If i quit ascii I quit ascii. It really isn't the only thing I do so.. 16. Do you have that horny snoop doggy dogg everyone is talking about? - And my new pair of airwalks... ranx/jA! _ ______________________________________________________________________ __ _ Interview with Red Demon of Low Profile - -÷---------------------------------------÷- - .X A N S W E R S X. o1. When did you make your first Ascii attempts? 1. My very first attempts to make an aski logo, was somewhere in Januari / Februari 1995.I released my first pack in May the same year (for those who are interested it was called [RDM-GRDY.TXT]. o2. Do you know how many Ascii-productions have you released? 2. Yess actually, i do. o3. What's so damn special with Ascii? 3. Its not specificly aski that is so appealing to me.I did gfx art before I started doing aski art.For me, the expression itself is what is more important.I like to make logos, in aski or plain gfx, or even graf pieces on papper.Perhaps i will started spraying in the future. o4. Have you got any special idols from the Ascii-scene? 4. Desoto, Rapid, Stezotehic, Trivial, Axeblade, H2O, Webster, Dino, Folar, Relief, Mark ryder, U-man, Exocet, Crusader, Gozz, Mortimer Twang, Flite and Stylewars are my favorits.Perhaps there are a few more, but i can't call them to mind this instant. o5. What's your opinion about the Iff2Ascii-Art? 5. I dont see IFF2ASC as an aski art form.In my opinion its more a form of gfx. o6. Are dot's more stylish than 'regular' Ascii? 6. More stylish, perhaps, it just adds a little xtra to the ascii. o7. Do you read every single collection that is released today? 7. I try to read all i can get my hands on, although some packs sometimes seem to be made to bore the viewer. In these cases I just read the intro and outro, and look at the style used in overall. o8. Do you answer requests made to 'All Available Artists' ? 8. Most of the time i don't.I don't see why people ask art from "All Available Artists".They are apperantly not interested in *me* as an artist, cause they would have requested to me personaly. That means they do not spend enough time on the art-scene, the don't deserve art (atleast not mine). o9. How should a request be written to be guarantied a answer from you? 9. There's no perscription to a "good" request. Most of the time i take the requests. If i do not take them, i'm probably too busy with projects. 1o. Are there more Ascii-groups than there has to be? 10. Well, i could live without Wu Trank and Ultimo Emperio if that is what you mean. 11. What do you think of the attitude in the Ascii-scene of today? 11. Pfff.. thats hard.I don't think you can speak of a scene in general. The scene is build up from individuals. They are more important to me than the scene is.Although i must say that some sceners somethese do have a bit of an arrogant attitude.Hopefully i will never be one of them. 12. What do you think about the idea of having special magazines dedicated to the Ascii-scene? 12. Why not, it breaks the day.Perhaps there could be some more mags with interviews, which have questions that are interesting enough to read the reply from. 13. Is there a big difference between Old-skool Ascii and Ascii of today? 13. That depends on which artist you are looking at.Art from some artist still have a taste from the old days in them.Far as i'm conserned thats okay, but i try to move on, make new styles, try different chars.I must add that at the time I became active in the scene the real *oldskool* was already starting to fade a bit. 14. Have you any special projects going on that will be released in a near future? 14. I'm currently working on a coop with Boheme, which will probably be released somewhere in 2013.Besides that i'm working on my own packs, and on LP! as a group, to keep things on track.I was also thinking about creating a group called "High Profits".This group should consist of anyone who wants to release something else, beside aski packs. For instance humoristic stories, poems, comments on the scene, what ever you would want to tell the public, which can't be told in a normal pack. Only thing is, that you must be an aski artist to join. This to keep the connection with the aski scene. 15. What would you be doing instead of Ascii if you suddenly quitted? 15. I would probably spend more time on skool.Besides that i would probably do the same things i do now-a-days, which is playing on my psx, snow- boarding, listening to music, and some skateboarding. 16. Do you have a horny snoop doggy dogg? 16. No i do not.I do however, own a cat. This fact alone makes me an aski artist (hi Wise-k:), since cats and aski are very close. An investigation i did some time ago on this subject showed that almost 90% of the more- known artists have a cat. There are even artists who own more then one cat, for instane Hotwire who has four cats, making him a very good artist. I think that there should be a list, the "100-most-cat-friendly-artists". Perhaps Punk could make this list, it would serve more value then the one is making now. 2. I released fifteen packs (coops included) and i also tried to do some crappy "humoristic" files. _ ______________________________________________________________________ __ _ Interview with Tango of Twisted - -÷-------------------------------÷- - TANGo/Nerve Axis & Twisted o1. When did you make your first Ascii attempts? Oooh can't be sure but I'd say it was back in late '93 and released my first collection in October 93. o2. Do you know how many Ascii-productions have you released? I do actually ... it's a rather frightening number: 44 so far and I'm working on a new one as we speak. o3. What's so damn special with Ascii? Good question - argh - because it brightens up what would otherwise be a rather mundane bbs or file listing or production ... there's a lot of reasons but the REAL reason it's special is because I say so ... ehrm ... no? Oh well :D o4. Have you got any special idols from the Ascii-scene? Yes I've got quite a few actually ... Mogue/Arclite - An inspiration since I first started ascii U-Man/Arclite - A great bloke and quality work Exocet/Arclite - Just a bloody superb artist Relief/Twisted - A huge inspiration to me and a good friend Desoto/Mo'Soul - Just too good sometimes to be believed MarkRyder/Mo'Soul - For having more attitude than anyone else =D o5. What's your opinion about the Iff2Ascii-Art? Tough one ... I think that some people are using it purely because they think it's an easy way out of using a decent style, but other people really have mastered the art of it and used sparingly it can create a superb effect - Mortimer Twang/Bastard/Xcluziwe are three examples in my mind of people who can use it. o6. Are dot's more stylish than 'regular' Ascii? No but they can complement the ascii logos very well. It's all a matter of contrast and style I guess as well as personal opinion in abundance. o7. Do you read every single collection that is released today? Every single one I see I read and keep ... got over 70/80mb of ascii on my HD and fuck knows how many collections that amounts to. o8. Do you answer requests made to 'All Available Artists' ? Sometimes yes - sometimes no ... I'll answer that sort of question maybe one in a month and only if I respect that individual and think it'd be nice to see my stuff alongside theirs. o9. How should a request be written to be guarantied a answer from you? I like people to actually use more than the phrase "do me ascii now" because I hate neanderthal conversation ... if you're sending an email then be polite & pleasant and remember that if you are nice then the chances of getting a reply go up HIIIIGH. 1o. Are there more Ascii-groups than there has to be? Ahaha ... yes ... get rid of SOS for a start =) Ehrm well I dunno it's a toughie that one ... I think there's more mediocre ascii groups than there needs to be, but on the other hand what is an ideal number of ascii groups? 11. What do you think of the attitude in the Ascii-scene of today? I think there's a lot of bitching (i've done it too) and it's all great fun haha. The attitude is massively mixed ... some people consider themselves too good for everyone else and others are just spot on. I'd say there's a better ascii scene than the scene in the UK right at the moment. 12. What do you think about the idea of having special magazines dedicated to the Ascii-scene? It's a great idea but it's gotta be supported to get anywhere. Ascii Gazette and ArtBomb are the only two that leap to mind. RoadHogz failed miserably because it wasn't done by artists. 13. Is there a big difference between Old-skool Ascii and Ascii of today? Oldschool is a foundation that deserves respect on what they have achieved whereas ascii of today is constantly pushing to achieve a status where they will be respected. Ehrm I'll stop there before I move into a massive discussion type thing. 14. Have you any special projects going on that will be released in a near future? Well I'm always working on an ascii collection at any given moment in time and at the moment I think I'm also working on a co-op with Ramone and a few other guys but don't know if thats still going on. 15. What would you be doing instead of Ascii if you suddenly quitted? Hanging around on IRC channels like a lost little puppy :) The day I quit ascii is the the day that I sell my Amiga :) 16. Do you have a horny snoop doggy dogg? No but I've had pussy galore. _ ______________________________________________________________________ __ _ The Interviews - -÷--------------÷- - Quite alot of artists have contributed with their opinions of the ascii-scene by now. This aint personal interviews (any interest of such ones?) but just a sheet to fill out by various artists. All interviews are designed by the artists themself, adn thereby not 100% equal. And this is a list of all the earlier victims since the very first issue of the Ascii Gazette. They have all stated their opinions answering the very same questions; Fatal - fTL - Epsilon Design Desoto - dto - Mo'Soul Grimlock - g®m - Epsilon Design Behemoth - bHm - Style Mazza - mAZ! - Art Skize - skZ - ex-Whale Dino - dNo - Jedi Arts Nup - nUp - Mo'Soul Relief - rLf - Twisted Vietcong - vC! - O.m.a. HiJack - hJ - Arclite Ranx - rX - Jedi Arts Red Demon - rDm - Low Profile Tango - tGø - Twisted _ ______________________________________________________________________ __ _ Last Words - -÷----------÷- - You have been watching the text-edition of the Ascii-Gazette. And I thank you for spending time with all these information about what we have choosen to call Ascii. Sorry about the once again delayed production, but I guess that it might have been worth the waiting? Hope so anyway. I'm sad to still see some pathetic comments about this production being false and untrue, without any examples at all. This Gazette is 100% facts-based, and I can of cause not claim that it's 100% correct. Who can? It really aint like I'm being FLOODED with facts about the scene. Most of it do I have to find out by myself. So, if you now happen to have any problems with some- thing in this production, TELL ME, and it WILL be changed/updated. It aint harder than that. So spare me them negative comments about this Ascii Gazette - it wont be any different from what You guys make it. And many thanx to Anf for the classic first Ascii Gazette logo, and to the (by me) reawaken ascii-god Kamenski of Upperclass for the logo beneath. ._________ / Xcluziwe ( xCz ) of Sos and Hellfire. | ø/ . 10/2 '96. ________| _/________: ._________________! : _____ ! / ø! | \ /_.____: ..______________| . / .___! |_________| __ _ / | ø| :| ø/ ____| | . __/ | | | / : \ /___! | || / __/ | ! | \ ! | : / | ø\ / | | /\ / \! ø| _ø_____| \______:_______/__________/_______|____:___/\ /__________: «-:--- -|______\------- ------------ - ------- ---!---- \_/[KAM/UC-:-»! . .
