the blender marches on
n e w s
Because there isnt enough else going on in the world at this moment, we felt
that the underground PC art scene deserved another Blender funpo, as a treat.
Since picking the pace back up in 2015, weve just been running them annually.
In recent years, weve been multiplexing them, still having only one Blender
session annually, but holding multiple compos of different lengths during that
session. This time we kept it simple, stupid, and hosted a single Blender
improvised art competition over a 24-hr period from Saturday, October 24th
through to Sunday, October 25th. It wasnt a huge to-do, but we hosted a
respectable quantity of participants and produced a worthwhile body of art on
our impromptu themes.
Due to Cthulus failure to maintain IRC logs, this infofile will also be
keeping it simple, stupid, and foregoing the traditional in their own words
reportage live from the scene of the crime. Youll just have to take his word
for it that we were our customary witty and urbane selves.

We got a little abstract this time around with the location. The subject,
KUNG-FU MASTERS, overlapped with recent Blenders about martial arts, but of
course, it didnt demand that they be practicing their demanding and esoteric
physical discipline. Indeed, this time the words required them to be HAVING A
DANCE-OFF. And where? INSIDE A PRISM. You have to use your imagination a
little bit there. I made some Zardoz jokes, and then a week later Sean Connery
died. The moral of the story: perhaps I should be a little more careful while
using my imagination.

Warpus was really happy with the entries, and wanted to give a pointless by
which I mean, non-scoring in the rankings HONORABLE MENTION to Blippypixel of
MISTIGRIS for his first-time Blender participation a teletext screen, how very
Misty and SPINSANE for his colourful haiku.
But we awarded THIRD PLACE, worth one point in the rankings, to Blender lifer
mel farr suppastar of LAZARUS for an evocative ANSI art screen in his unique
aesthetic.
SECOND PLACE was the subject of much debate in the judging chambers, and
finally we agreed to proclaim a TIE between TAINTED of BLOCKTRONICS and HAYN9
of LEGACY KREW, both Blenderizing for the first time ever, both demonstrating
ANSI art mastery, just putting the emphasis on different assigned words. This
placing earned both of their groups two points in the standings.
We didnt have to discuss who won FIRST PLACE: silently, unanimously, we were
compelled to bestow the distinction upon WHAZZIT of BLOCKTRONICS, earning them
three more points in the rankings. If you want a short cut to the judges
hearts, the secret is: ANSI ART ANIMATION.

What have we learned this time?
Scoring is easier if you only host one compo at a time, yielding fewer
opportunities for the bestowing of bonus points. This is both a pro and a con.
We suggested in last Blenders infofile that we might shake up our annual compo
pace and run one in October, and lo and behold, we did. Read an infofile,
kids, you just might learn something useful!
Speaking of last Blender, our apologies -- the already-complicated scoring was
all messed up by the incorrect allocation of points to a defunct crew. They
have been recalculated, and everyone will be glad to know that we have
retroactively redacted what nail described as our fellating of the corpse of
Fuel. Legacy, Lazarus, and Mistigris all gained from the redistribution of
those points.
Speaking of Lazarus, the last time they went up in the rankings was close to
a quarter century ago! Its always exciting to see a crew emerge from the hazy
mists of history and immediately set to frenetic Blenderizing!
Blocktronics concerted ascent in the rankings is perhaps less unlikely, but
hats off to Whazzit for pulling down his second consecutive gold prize!
In terms of overall Blender participation, this time Warpus finally pulls ahead
from Hennifer in the most Blenders participated in category.
And Warpus wanted to note that hes pleased as punch to have finally gotten
Tainted to take part in a Blender. I gather that it failed to happen in the
90s and he had kind of figured that it never would. Never say never!
