Eden 6/95 Whats Going On?!
Since the last Eden release May 1995, there has been a
number of setbacks. My harddrive died and along with it Terrapin
Station. I had been growing weary of all the time and money it
had been eating up anyway, and decided it best to just scrap the
whole thing. At the same time, my friend Karl Ross Proteus and
I had been toying with the idea of combining our two BBSs. This
idea soon became reality, and Fantastic Planet was formed.
While these things were happening on my end, The Temperate
Hijacker had been hit with a costly phone bill and decided that
the time had come for him to retire from sysopdom and take down
Syndication-X. At the time, Terrapin Station and Syndication-X
had been the two headquarters for Eden the downfall of both
presented a problem to the group.
Another problem that had existed all-along ever since the
merger of Eden and Rancid was the lack of communication amoung
the group members. I had hoped that this could be corrected over
time, for the entire principle of Eden is based upon an open
dialogue. This, however, proved to be impossible for a number of
reasons: personal time restraints, money LD phone bills were
outrageous, and lack of information a complete list of members
and phone numbers was only a fanciful dream. We had made a
crucial error: we had tried to build the group, then develop an
organized system for it to run upon. The result: chaos.
Its been a long and frustrating pull for everyone in Eden.
Recognizing our current situation and judging from results of
past actions, I have decided the only thing to do is to start
over. A group cannot function especially one based upon such
intimate principles as Eden without effective organization and
communication. I believe I have tried every alternative, and Im
now too frustrated to keep pulling teeth.
What I have done is dissolved the group. As I write this, I
am the sole member of Eden. In order to avoid the frustration of
the past, I ask only those still truly dedicated to Eden to join.
If you are a past member of Eden, I require only a completed
application form see end of message to be uploaded to the new
Headquarters: Fantastic Planet 717-394-3643 or emailed to me
mdickey@eves.com. Upon receipt, your name will be added to the
memberlist.
Will Eden die? The answer to this depends on you, the
artists. As long as the interest is there, I will stick to it,
and Eden will never die. Weve had tough times before, but were
not out to be the best, so we dont have to be scared of making
radical changes to fix problems.
In the near future, the structure of Eden will be developed
and solidified. Our Web page is nearly complete, and Fantastic
Planet is nearly finished. Creators Network will be torn apart
and put back together again due to almost no support from key
hosts. I ask only those sysops truly dedicated to apply, for the
new policies of the network will be extremely strict for the
nodes and non-forgiving-- i will no longer play with dilly-dally
sysops.
