Meow-llo, computer art friends! lda Though there are many fascinating anddeserving themes weve never yet cracked into, for the third time, we herepresent to you
another collection of vintage computer art well, contemporary computer art in
vintage styles, mediums and formats all about cats. Cats do, after all, have
a tendency to go where they want to feline you, I wont do what you tell me
to and I guess they felt ready for another moment in the limelight, perhaps
mistaking it for a sunbeam.
Our first cat pack theres a regular contradiction in terms six years ago
dropped as an improbable bonus surprise at the end of a busy year, a
showboating victory lap following twelve months of monthly releases.
Revisiting a theme three times over a six-year period may sound excessive,
but amortised against the 31 years since our establishment perhaps were just
getting caught up! But in that whole time weve now released three cat
packs and only two video game-themed artpacks. That doesnt seem right!
Maybe we can split the difference by devoting an artpack to video game cats.
This seems like a good idea when I think of AlleyCat, Wing Commander and
Monoliths Captain Claw, but then Bubsy and the Cheetahmen make me
reconsider... Now... I guess we just still love cats and decided to keep a
good thing going! The chatter conference on our Discord has been entirely
turned over to the glorification of these chaotic mogs, and of course the very
name of our Mistigris computer art collective does derive from French slang
for the freewheeling alley cat, Mehitabel style, by way of a card game. So
perhaps returning to this prowl was inevitable. Maybe someday all our
artpacks will be cat-themed. And when will the patient dogs finally have
their day? Not today, Spot! Stay.

There are all kinds of cats out there, domestic and wild, real and fictitious,
mundane and celebrated... we have tried to spread our scope broadly and
explore many nuanced aspects of the vast realm of cats. Most of our cats are
or were real cats at one point, or are hypothetical Platonic ideals of cats,
but Cthulu is a real sucker for pop culture and it has led him to some places
both obvious and profoundly unlikely.
Thanks to the architects of our feline playground here, the folks who dressed
the place up fit for kits -- cccfire emerged from semiretirement to provide us
with the FILEID.DIZ, Moth designed the bookstore cat atop the memberlist and
Lockja the kitty at its bottom, and I rather suspect the ALF you saw kicking
things off here Remember Alf? Hes back! In newsletter header form is the

There it is again! Did you ... I thought I saw... where did it go? OK,

A handful of artists provided most of the art in this collection -- Mozz
really had a lot of cats they needed to draw in ASCII, and was I guess just
waiting for a good excuse to do so! Mozz also pointed us toward the new
artist making their artpack debut in this collection, Lockja, who for months
has been neglecting youtube.com/@ASCIItutor in favor of quietly celebrating
weekly Caturdays with textmode art over on their BlueSky account. Do I have
a cat? No. I enjoy the idea and a life without litterbox duties.
Thanks to cat fanatics Nitron and Consolejockey, enthusiastic helpers LDA and
Zeus II, andyh banging the cat drum all year round, and of course all the rest
of our contributors we were really feeling the absence of The Green Herring
until the very last minute, with them parachuting in a succinct argument in
support of the video game cat thesis mentioned earlier for representing in
this collection! It will probably be a few years before we return to cats
again, but I expect to be hearing the first irate mewlings demanding the next
one before the summer is out. But its too late for you, kitties, the rest of
the year is spoken for! Next up, were plotting a tribute to anime. See you
