Che Guevara was an Argentinian medical student who became
radicalized after seeing the poverty of South America. He joined Fidel Castro in Mexico City in November 1956 and fought as a
revolutionary in Cuba. He was known for his ruthlessness, and trained his fellow rebels in guerrilla warfare. He felt it was his duty to educate them in literature as well, and would often recount to them tales from classic stories or of the works of famous philosophers. He identified how important the role of media could be in creating and maintaining support for their rebellion and created an insurgent radio station that broadcast their manifesto to the Cuban people. Guevara rose to second in command during his two years as a member of the Cuban rebellion, and once they siezed power he was employed in important posts in the government.
