@@descriptEditorial - Jack Flack
Editorial by Jack Flack
Heres another month. Time and time again, Ive asked for people to just
send something, anything, saying that they liked the pack hell, something
that would say that they READ the pack would be appreciated.
I am writing this article from Spokane, Washington 4 hours from Seattle,
2 hours from Canada, and half an hour from Idaho. Its going slow as hell,
since I have this tiny little laptop that the government provides me which is
actually pretty kick ass - a little Pentium 75 laptop Satellite Pro from
Toshiba. I had to force myself to quit playing MK III and Hexen for a while
on this baby to get some of this shit written.
Sometimes, I outgrow things. Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew.
Sometimes, I just get tired of things and need a change. I dont know which
if any of these things have influenced my decision.
As of this writing, I am turning over all editorial duties and all
presidential rights of the group SaZ to The Stranger. The two questions
that must be answered here is 1 why would I do this, and 2 what does this
mean for SaZ?
1 - Why would I do this.
There are several reasons why I have done this, and I hope people read
through here and try and understand it. The first reason I am doing this
is due to time restrictions. After travelling for 10 days, I will be home
for a few days, and then will be travelling off and on again for quite a
while. This lifestyle makes me appreciate different things, and believe me,
when I work on computers 8 hours a day, and then travel and work on them for
10 days straight, the last thing I want to do is to come home and cram a
bunch of stuff into the computer, trying to make a deadline.
The second reason I did this is because I have held up the last two release
dates by not being ready for deadline. This is not fair for me to do, since
we dont normally wait for late submitters. The reason I have been late? I
dont know. Usually lazyness or lack of time.
The third reason I am doing this is because basically at this point and
time I am out of horror related lit to release, and dont seem to be finding
the drive to write more. Everything I come out with seems to be a copy of
the last thing I did, or worse, a copy of something Ive read somewhere else.
I think my own writing not the writing of the group in general has become
trite and worn out.
2 - What does this mean for the group?
Very little, actually. I mean, I really feel like I came up with the idea
for Soulz at Zero and making our own lit group, but without the constant
fire and desire from The Stranger, this group would have floated belly up a
long time ago. Im more of a come and get it type of guy, while The
Stranger spent many nights and many dollars calling long distance, spreading
the packs and spreading the good word.
I know for a fact that The Stranger will continue to do the terrific job
that this group deserves something that I have not been doing as of late.
My board as long as its okay with The Stranger will remain the US
Headquarters, which will mean all members can still communicate there and
also send me e-mail as well about the group. I can and will forward those
messages to the appropriate people. I also will always keep all the SAZ pax
on my board as long as its up.
Normally in this area the new editorial we are supposed to put our greets
and such, and I guess it would be appropriate for me to greet and thank all
the people that have helped me over the last year or so, but the list would
be too long! If you have helped me in any way, have ever been greeted by me
in any SaZ pack or any other thing I have ever released, pat yourself on the
back and consider it another greet here.
Well, thats it. I wish this group the best - I wouldnt have put so much
time and effort into it if I didnt think that it had that oppurtunity. But
its time to pass the reigns along. I might from time to time submit articles
to SaZ, but as for running the group, making sure the packs get out on time,
and being in charge of the group, those will all be functions that The
Stranger will be handling. Also, if The Stranger says its okay, Id like to
remain on the staff as a resident artist and part time project writer, if
I come up with any special horror related things I write.
I will be spending what time I do on the computer working on my board Ive
got some big things in mind for the bbs, including even more lines and more
drive space. Dont forget that Ill also be putting out SiTH, which is
less of a group and more magazine related. Anyone wanting to try and get
something published in SiTH just needs to send me the article and I will
take a look at it. The Stranger, Black Sunshine, and Yaun-Ti are just a few
of the people who have already submitted things to me.
Good luck, SoulZ at ZerO. I always said that I would not continue running
a project that my heart was not into 100, and it would seem that that time
has come. I have all the faith in the world that The Stranger and the rest
of the group will keep my original dream alive.
